Crosstown Prayer Gathering

This small group (led by Gayle Cousins - assisted by Kim Kissner-Admin) is for all men and women, for the purpose of learning about, and engaging in, intercessory prayer in a corporate setting. This is for anyone interested in this type of prayer whether you have had very little experience or a lot!! We will all learn from the Holy Spirit, and from one another, as to how to "pray in" the Kingdom of God, and to pray what is on God’s heart! There will be a short teaching at the beginning of each session and the rest of the session will be engaging in prayer. We would love to see you there!! We will normally meet on the 4th Sunday evening each month, from 6:30 - 8:00 pm - Feb 12, March 26, April 23, May 28, June 25, July 23, Aug 27, Sept 24, Oct 22 & Nov 26. We are very flexible on the capacity/number attending believing for interest and growth during this year of "Taking Ground!" Prayer is the foundation for the Church, for healthy growth, strength and unity, and for future revival!!

DivorceCare

DivorceCare is a biblically based, Christ-centered support group seminar. Each session shows a 30-minute video followed by a small group discussion about the video. The DivorceCare videos present experts, ministers, and Christian counselors discussing divorce-related issues such as depression, anger, forgiveness, and reconciliation. Real people share their stories of how they deal with the pain and heartbreak of divorce and separation. During the week between meetings, group members complete a daily Bible study and practical exercises to help them heal from their hurt and pain. DivorceCare is for people who are separated or divorced.

There is nothing more exciting than living a Spirit-filled, empowered life! This eight-week Bible study will instruct, encourage and inspire you to walk in all that Jesus has made available to you through the infilling of the Holy Spirit and the gifts that He imparts. These gifts are vital and need to be used in order to be effective witnesses for Him. In this study you will learn about the unseen world, which is called the Spirit realm. Even though we don't see it with our physical eyes, we interact with it on a daily basis. You will also learn in detail about each of the nine gifts of the Spirit how they are used throughout the Old and New Testament by ordinary people. Finally, you will have the opportunity to deepen your relationship with the Lord through the lessons on prayer and intercession. Empower will meet every Monday beginning September 25th through November 20th, 6:30 to 8:00. We will be meeting in the Lounge. Please note*** It is strongly recommended that you attend the Alpha and Freedom courses before attending Empower.

Empower is open to anyone at River Valley that has been through our Alpha; if you have not attended Alpha you will need to sign up for that. They say raising kids takes a village and who better than surround yourself with other believers who can encourage and speak truth into your life and marriage. Join us as we dig into different bible studies to grow in our knowledge of God's Word, parenting skills and marriage. Our group meets over zoom twice a month. We found last year when having to do our group over zoom that it actually worked well for families with little kids to find community in this way (just put your kids to bed and hop on your computer). Genesis Precept Study

This is a 26-week study of Genesis, the first book of the Bible. Precept is an inductive Bible study method whereby you let the text and the Holy Spirit teach you. There's a workbook for personal study followed by a 75-minute weekly group discussion every week. Genesis in structured in five parts, with Part 1 covering Chapters 1-2 (the Creation story) in four lessons. Part 2 starts on 11/11/23. Options for personal study include either "In-and-Out" (2 hours of weekly personal study) or the deeper "Precept-Upon-Precept" (four hours per week). Choose the depth of study that works best for your schedule. Workbooks can be ordered directly from the Precept website at precept.org > Shop > By Book of the Bible or Topic > Genesis > Precept-Upon-Precept or In-and-Out > ESV or NASB workbook > Part 1. The Part 1 workbooks are $7.00 or $9.00. I've studied by this method for over ten years, and I believe that it's one of the best ways to know the Bible and grow your faith. Finally, my plan is to follow Genesis with Revelation beginning in April 2024. The bookends; alpha and omega.

This small group is created for anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one, who has wrestled with questions such as "God, do you see me?," "God, why are you silent?," "What is the good in this?" This is a safe space to connect with others at River Valley Church who are grieving the loss of loved ones, pray for each other about the difficult and disappointing times we've faced and are continuing to face, and learn to lament in a Biblical way. We will be meeting once or twice a month over coffee and light breakfast. Grief and loss can feel so isolating, but God does not want us to walk it out alone. We would love to walk alongside you and together seek God amidst the joy and sorrow! Kids are welcome to come -- there will be unstructured play time.
